Robben Island Museum exits summer with massive deals for South Africans
Summer, sun and lots of fun. That’s what the months of February and March are known for in Cape Town. Before summer draws to a close, we still have long sunny summer days and crystal blue skies.
Robben Island Museum (RIM) is providing South African citizens more reason to enjoy the rest of summer with heavily discounted packages until the end of March.
From the 10 of February 2025, South African Citizens can now celebrate their special day by taking a free tour of the Museum on the day of their Birthday subject to proof of ID. Pensioners are also encouraged to experience the beauty, history and heritage that RIM has to offer at a discounted rate of R250 per person on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Accredited Tour guides with valid tour guiding IDs can also enjoy the savings at a special concession fee of R250 per tour. While accredited tour guides, pensioners and birthday tickets will be available over the counter at the RIM Ticket sales office at the Nelson Mandela Gateway, Clock Tower, V&A Waterfront, pre-booking is encouraged as there are limited spaces on our daily tours.
RIM has also added to your summer fun by availing special concessions during February and March 2025 allowing qualifying South African NGOs, religious groups and educational entities the opportunity to spend their summer days touring this iconic living museum and indulging the heritage and natural beauty that is on offer.
Concessions tickets are subjected to pre-booking and availability. Bookings should be made in writing at least 4 working days prior to the proposed visit date. A signed written request on an official letter head from a school/religious group/NGO must include, among others, the following:
- Proposed date of visit.
- Name of person or group initiating the visit.
- Number of people in the group.
- Contact information (name, title, phone number, and address).
Interested stakeholders can email their request to Concessionbookings@robben-island.org.za. Please note that terms and conditions apply.
“RIM has introduced this wonderful opportunity to keep this notorious island, where Madiba spent the largest period of his imprisonment, accessible to our own citizens, especially local communities, pensioners, religious and educational groups. This opportunity will apply to a vast group of visitors from pensioners to school groups and we encourage all South African residents to participate in this offer” – Stated Prof. Saths Cooper, Chairperson of the RIM Council.
RIM offers four standard tours daily at 09:00, 11:00 13:00 and 15:00 at R400 for a South African Adult and R210 for children under 18. Those from outside South Africa pay R600 per adult and R310 per child. During the concession period the prices will be further lowered for South Africans to R250 per adult and R130 per child for those qualifying as indicated above. More information on the products offered by RIM is available at robben-island.org.za and everyone is invited to follow us on our social media sites.
This National and World Heritage Site looks forward to providing you with an inspirational and exciting learning experience and we hope to see you soon.
END.
