
Sport, Arts and Culture to celebrate Language and Culture with Deaf Stakeholders in Collaboration with PanSALB, Pretoria
Department of Arts, Sport and Culture and the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) in collaboration with the Gauteng Provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Recreation will host a celebration of language and culture with Deaf stakeholders on Wednesday, 05 March 2025 in Pretoria.
This event will bring together the Deaf community and hearing participants to raise awareness of South African Sign Language (SASL) as the country’s 12th official language. It will also focus on improving access to quality information for the Deaf community and ensuring the protection and promotion of their linguistic human rights.
The celebration will feature insightful discussions, Deaf cultural performances, and interactive engagements, all aimed at advancing linguistic diversity and the human rights of SASL users across South Africa. Taking place during the human rights month, this celebration is also a demonstration of a move towards social justice.
