Unlock History at Robben Island Museum with the NextGen Heritage Free Pass
Robben Island Museum is pleased to announce the launch of its NextGen Heritage Free Pass, designed to make heritage exploration more accessible for South African families. From 1 June to 30 October 2026, South African children under the age of 15 can visit the museum free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult. This initiative forms part of RIMs objective to educate children and encourage intergenerational engagement with our nation’s living heritage.
As one of South Africa’s most iconic heritage sites, RIM offers a unique educational experience that brings the country’s complex history and democratic journey to life through guided tours led by ex-political prisoners. This campaign aims to inspire curiosity, reflection, and a sense of shared heritage among young South Africans and their families.
The NextGen Heritage Free Pass is valid from 01 June to 30 October 2026 and applies to daily tour time slots at 09:00, 11:00, and 13:00. A South African adult ticket is priced at R400.00, while the child’s free entry applies only to one child per paying adult. The standard rate is R210.00 per child if you plan to bring any additional children. Bookings can be made online via our website: www.robben-island.org.za or directly at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island at the V&A Waterfront.
This winter and spring, families are encouraged to discover Robben Island Museum not just as a historical destination, but as a place where the past continues to shape our collective future. The NextGen Heritage Free Pass offers a meaningful and memorable outing for both children and adults alike.
