The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has recently initiated the process of developing the National Book Policy, which is to address the needs and to respond to the recommendations contained in the White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage. This policy is to regulate and provide support to the Books and Publishing sector.
The White Paper discusses the establishment of a South African Book Development Council as a statutory body to conceptualise, draft, and implement a National Book Development Plan, informed by relevant objectives, principles, and proposals. DSAC has commenced with this policy development process as a critical step in formalising the intent of the Department in providing guidance on a way forward for the sector to flourish.
DSAC has appointed ROGER LAYTON ASSOCIATES (PTY) LTD (RLA) to render the specialised service of developing this policy, following prescribed processes. RLA will be contacting your organisation/institution/department as part of the
consultation process towards the development of this policy. The DSAC hereby requests your assistance in ensuring that RLA captures the required inputs from your organisation/institution/department, as a critical stakeholder, to assist in the formulation of this policy. Kindly allow RLA access to all relevant information and resources that will assist them and which will enhance the policy development process.
