It is befitting that we meet during Human Rights Month to honour amongst others the late iNkosi Albert Luthuli, a man who is an embodiment of human rights. During the month of March, we commemorate and honor those who were slain and persecuted during the Sharpeville massacre of 1960, kwaLanga in Cape Town, as well as in Tinarha in the Eastern Cape. These atrocities stood as potent symbols of the brutal realities of apartheid South Africa.

All universities have been notified of the outcome of the adjudication committee through letters. The new cycle will start on 1 April 2024 and the budget for the new cycle is R16 681 000.  Currently the Department is working on contracting the successful universities.

Over the past weekend, we learnt of the sad passing of former Orlando Pirates captain and Bafana Bafana defender, Mr Papi Khomane, who passed away a car accident alongside his brother-in-law and mother Ms Rita Khomane. I request us all to observe a moment of silence as a sign of respect to the fallen football star and his family.
